FIANCÉES follows the path of three women towards marriage. While capturing this turning point, the film draws a portrait of Cairo’s modern society, in which today's generation must face the pressure of unshakable tradition and their own desire for greater freedom.

Cairo, a city of more than 20 million people, has recently gone through multiple political, cultural and economic upheavals, forcing Egyptian society to reinvent itself. In this unstable context, FIANCÉES is an immersion into the daily lives of young Egyptians on the long path towards marriage.

Batool and Bassam are aspiring actors struggling to maintain a balance in their relationship. The wait for an apartment and their family’s pressure are weakening their harmony.
Marize and Ramy are Christians that have privileged backgrounds. Their dream is a perfect marriage and access to sexuality. They want to use contraception while following the traditions imposed by religion. They represent the youth that is both influenced by the western and traditional world.
Randa and Abdelrahman have a Muslim traditional background and wish for more freedom in their daily lives. Randa's claims about gender equality collide with the beliefs of Egyptian society.
